About Shadow Tuition
A test can tell you a student got something wrong. It almost never tells you why.
Shadow Tuition is founded and built by Rohan, a practising teacher in Gurugram.
Where it started
Shadow Tuition started with a simple observation from teaching. A mark on a test shows that an answer was wrong. It rarely shows the idea behind the mistake — and that idea is what a student needs to fix.
So we built a testing engine that looks at the working behind each wrong answer for the misunderstanding it suggests, then brings that idea back later in a new form to check it has stuck.
Parents get a plain-language weekly report on WhatsApp: what improved and what still needs work. No app to download.
A mark says: incorrect.
The working suggests: the tops and the bottoms were added separately: fractions can only be added once they share a denominator.
Correct working: 3/6 + 2/6, so 5/6.
Our mission
To find every student's real learning gap — not their grade label — and close it, one understood mistake at a time.
Where we want this to lead
An India where every student’s practice is built around what they actually don’t know, not a fixed syllabus pace everyone is forced to share.
What we hold to
Three rules that decide what gets built, and what doesn’t.
- Diagnosis over guessing
- We don't serve a question until we know what it will tell us.
- Evidence over engagement
- Understanding is checked later, in a new form — not by streaks or same-session accuracy.
- Trust over hype
- Questions are checked before a student sees them. One error costs more than ten good questions build.
How maths questions are checked
Before a maths question reaches a student, a separate code step solves it independently and checks the expected answer.
Answer checked by code before a student sees the question.
A question is prepared
Each maths question comes with the answer it expects.
Code solves it separately
A separate code step solves the same question independently.
The answers are compared
The answer is checked before the question can reach a student.
“One wrong question costs more trust than ten good ones build.”
Results, measured in real exam marks
With parent consent, we're tracking real school exam marks — before and after — for enrolled students. Not app scores or streaks. Results will be published here when the study is complete, whatever they show.

Real school exams, collected with parent consent. Whatever they show.
What we don’t do
- We don’t use student data for advertising, and we don’t sell personal data.
- We don’t promise marks. We don't guarantee any specific exam outcome or score.
- We don’t treat one wrong answer as proof of a misconception. We say what the working suggests, then check again later.
- We don’t replace school or a tutor. Shadow Tuition is practice and diagnosis, not classroom teaching.
- We don’t show testimonials, user numbers or results we can’t back up. When there is evidence, it will be here.
